- Date Fished: Lake Baccarac Lodge Season Recap
- Comments: Lake Baccarac ended the season with a bang, and not to repeat the story, but please feel free to check out the fishing report on our website. We certainly did not have the number of friends at the lodge last season as we have had in the past, but we had enough to remind us of one thing: Lake Baccarac produces more trophies than any other lake in Mexico. We cannot locate a pattern for when and why they show up, and they are not there every week, but in reading through the reports, some of our friends’ catches will amaze you.
- March was definitely the standout month for the spring, with Jimmy Manley catching a 13.9, which is one of many great catches and trophies landed in March. Even Russ Johnson reported a 14.2 at the end of April. Gil Wright once again was a regular and thought May fishing was the best he had ever seen. This past season, the lake will be remembered for the incredible number of mid-sized bass caught, and at times, outstanding action from morning until dark. With the numbers of fish and the numbers of quality fish caught recently, everything points towards fantastic fishing again this coming season. We are looking to have the lodge open by October 1st. As many of you recognize, Lake Baccarac Lodge has outstanding attention paid to it by Narlin Salazar, and we have plans of having the lodge wi-fi equipped this coming season. The new runway at Bacubirito has served us well for those flying privately. The new bass fishing season at Lake Baccarac will start soon so call us to reserve your dates Toll Free 888.479.BASS (2277)

- Comments:
It seems like it happens every June. There is always
a story to tell about the fishing. This year, I was
lucky enough to be a part of the story. At the
request of Manuel Salazar, we went to catch an early
morning bite up near the cross past Rancho Padre.
This time of year, Lake Baccarac is very low,
probably only 30%, so getting to the cross was
impossible. Manuel did remember a spot he fished
about three years ago when the lake was about at
this level, a hole near Cadillac Island. In my
fifteen years of operating these lodges in Mexico, I
have only had two days that were anywhere close to
this; one day in 1997 fishing with my father-in-law
at Lake Huites and another day fishing with Rene in
the late spring of 2006. On June 15, 2010, I had
never seen this kind of bass fishing action on any
lake at any time. We pulled up to the long point
that had deep channels on both sides of it, and
threw crankbaits and swimbaits and never went
without a strike or a bass on for four solid hours.
And these were Baccarac bass, the smallest fish
being 2 1/2 lbs. and we were catching fish all of
the way up to 9 lbs. At one point, we estimated we
caught 30 bass over 5 1/2 lbs. in thirty minutes.
All in all, I would hate to guess at the average weight that came from that hole but we caught and released over 150 bass. As we were about to tire from throwing crankbaits, we decided to take a break and Manuel tied on a silver Zara spook and by now, at almost twelve o'clock, with the temperature near 100 degrees, and with his first cast before he could even work the spook, Manuel landed a 12.2 lb. bass. For the next 45 minutes, we threw nothing but topwater with the sun beating down on us and caught an additional 20 bass, almost all of them identical 4 pounders. I have never seen anything like it before. Hopefully, someday, I will see it again.

Ted Thompson had an incredible crankbait bite on
Lake Baccarac along with swimbaits in the outside
structure, with 14 bass over 9 lbs. and easily
catching 150 to 200 bass per boat in a day.
Gil Wright's trip was phenomenal, with he and Mike Watson catching 1200 largemouth bass in four days. Unbelieveable numbers of 5 to 8 lb. bass, using crankbaits in Rancho Padre and topwater baits up the river near the cross.
