1/25/12 - In the last seven days, we have had varied results on Lake Baccarac, with a couple of days the bite being very slow to nonexistent; a couple of days of big bass only, with Ron Albertson reporting catching four largemouth over 12 pounds. In the last couple of days, pretty consistent numbers of 3 to 7 lb. bass, with the best baits still being one oz. spinner baits with a white skirt, pearl swim baits, large Bill Dance fat free shad, watermelon red senkos, wacky style. We are seeing most of the big fish spawning right now with the water temperature over 70 degrees over most all of the lake.

  • Comments: January 2nd through 6th, we had quite a few bigger bass caught on top water with our Japanese clients. They fish predominantly top water and managed to get four fish over 10 lbs. January 7th through the 12th, fishing was average. The numbers were very good for largemouth bass between 2 and 5 lbs., mostly using watermelon lizards. Over the last four days, one oz. spinnerbaits once again produced big fish, with several bass in the 9 lb. class being caught and two largemouth over 10 lbs. landed. Black and blue one oz. jigs are working great for the fish that are still on the main points. Weightless senkos rigged wacky style also are working on those main lake point bass. The water temperature has risen from a low of around 66 degrees and it’s now 71 degrees.

The lake is a little bit stained and very low. Actually, it’s the lowest I have ever seen it but others have seen it slightly lower. In regards to the water level, the lake has very little useful water left in the lake, meaning that they will not be able to irrigate from the lake very much longer. We should have stable water conditions, something I’ve never seen, very soon. I understand that in the past, the low water did not really affect the overall fishing. Something we do have to look forward to when we get the summer rains, it will produce very exciting fall bass fishing on Lake Baccarac.

Topwater bass fishing produced fish over 10 pounds this Morning...more details soon.

The bass fishing from the previous two weeks was slow. The last four days offered only average results, boating 30 – 70 largemouth a day up to 7 lbs. Our Japanese clients, fishing predominantly top water, enjoyed their trip because 90% of their catches were on top water. The senko bite, spinner bait on top water offered the best results.

The mornings have been cool but the afternoons have certainly heated up. The water temperature on Lake Baccarac will start warming from this point on.

The water level, similar to all lakes on the Western side of Mexico, is lower than we would like to see it. Baccarac is currently around 30% capacity, with only about nine or ten percent useful water remaining for irrigation and electricity. We have seen these levels three times in the last ten years.

  • Comments: A great trip. Second best trip ever to Lake Baccarac. March of 2008 ranked as my best out of the 14 trips. This last trip was phenomenal, with my 20 biggest bass weighing 184 lbs. This is my first trip to catch bass in December and my first time to fish for suspended bass. The service was first class at Lake Baccarac Lodge and the lake is the best lake in Mexico. Thanks for a great trip. Bass Regards Mickey Bentley.

  • Comments: The trip this year was our best so far for big bass. Our group had 5 fish over 10 pounds, with a 10.92 being the largest. You had to work hard for the bass, but the average size was incredible. We quit counting the 7-9 pound largemouth. Hot baits were white magnum flukes, white spinnerbaits, and watermelon lizards and senkos. It is amazing fishing, when you fight a fish to the boat and say "darn it, another 7-pounder"! Thanks again for another great trip on Lake Baccarac.

  • Comments: Just got back in from the lodge. Cooler weather has set in and we had a couple of days of nice rainfall. The water temperature has dropped about ten degrees. It has affected the fishing, but only for a couple of days. Since December 1st, we have had Gale Vaught at the lodge and he absolutely had a fantastic trip, catching countless four to seven lb. bass and a nine lb. bass reported, along with three over 10 lbs.

Gale stated, you have to work hard for the catches, but for what I caught, it was worth the hard work! Larry Beard and his son, Matt, also have been at the lodge for the last few days and they reported catching nine fish over 9 lbs., fifteen over 8 lbs., twenty over 7 lbs. Larry has been to our lodge many times, and he says this was his third-best trip. He predicts that the spring season is going to be fantastic.

Also reported that you had to work had for what you caught, but the average size was incredible. The Steve Charbonneau group had a couple of slow days until today, and it was just reported that Steve and his partner caught three over 10 lbs. at today’s morning session while fishing islands with steep drop-offs. One oz. spinner baits are working very well, along with senkos and we have caught fish from 45 feet deep to five feet deep.

The big trophy bass have showed back up with fish up to 13 pounds caught on swimbaits and spinnerbaits..some pretty good topwater action as the water cools..... 11/25/2011 cooler temps creating lots of good topwater bass fishing action for the 3 to 9 pound bass. yellow magic and the rico pop r working , as well as the zara spook in baby bass color. Senkos( watermelon red ) and flukes ( pearl ) We have had lots of nice cloud cover the last 3 days.

Nov. 7th - Today's bass fishing on Lake Baccarac was varied, with overall numbers very low, but the Greg Riggle group reported bigger fish found in 20 foot of water using big pearl swim baits, along with pearl chartreuse swim baits, 10 inch magnum Berkley worms in dark colors, 6 inch worms in watermelon, using chatter bait jigs. No bass over 10 reported today. We do have a feeling things will change. The full moon is coming; the big fish will show up, but Mr. Big Fish Hunter himself, with his new signature series of baits will be at the lodge next week - Gil Wright.

Nov. 4th - The last three or four days, the big fish have turned off and are not biting. The graphs show them suspended off the points. There are plenty of bass to catch, however, up on the banks using white super flukes, magnum lizards, big senkos, 1/2 oz. spinner baits and medium running crank baits. The big largemouth yesterday was 7.8 pounds, with boats catching anywhere from 50 to 90 fish a day.

Nov. 1st - The bass fishing has gone from great numbers caught to low numbers and huge fish only to now a little slower over all....Brad Perry returned with his 5 biggest fish weighing 63 pounds ( on Oct 28th ) ..Numbers per day ranged from 15 in one day for one boat to 73 for another boat. Senkos and flukes worked best for last three days and spinnerbaits bite did not work at all. Bigger crankbaits worked very well on the points... It seems that the fish are starting to suspend

Fishing has slowed from the last report, with our clients catching from 30 - 60 bass per boat in the 8 lb. range. Senkos and swim baits worked the best for the recent group. We did have a beautiful 13.3 largemouth bass caught which will be posted on the website very soon, caught on a spinner bait. Spinner baits also produced many of the bigger fish for Narlin and his small group from Sinaloa de Leyva. Lake Baccarac is still at 35% and the next group will be arriving shortly.

The water level is coming up and the big bass have moved up shallow in the back of the coves...big rattling zara spooks have produced the biggest largemouth bass with many 7 to 11 pound bass caught....we still need more water in the lake- but it will come soon......

Over the last six weeks, we have had a hodgepodge of bass anglers at Lake Baccarac. As you know, we try to stay closed this time of the year because of the rains but have always tried to allow the local bass clubs to test the waters. As always, this time of year produces excellent action for the bigger fish. The days are longer and we are typically getting rain every afternoon. This year, we aren't getting nearly the rain we need and the only negative would be is the lake is a little low for this time of the year and we need more rain or a couple of big hurricanes, which I am sure we will get. The lake has started to get muddy at the north end from the runoff but I don't think it will have a long-lasting effect. The local Federation and co-ops have taken pride in preserving this as the best trophy lake in the world and want to extend to all of us a huge welcome and invitation to come fish Lake Baccarac.

Wow, the afternoon cloud cover is producing excellent results for the Japanese bass anglers currently at the Lodge. 11.11 largemouth caught on topwater and countless 7 to 9 pound bass caught on big crankbaits. ...It is very good right now!!!!

    06/08/2011
We have started getting a few evening rains. The fishing in June is even more outstanding than fishing in May. Lake Baccarac is currently at 30% capacity. The fishing are concentrated in creek channels and the long points. I personally caught my best fish of the year, a 12.1, last week using a DD 22, fishing light line to get the few extra feet of depth. Our current group at the lodge from Japan is reporting 40 to 60 fish per session per boat and are amazed at the number of 4 to 9 1/2 lb. bass. Don't miss out on this great fishing. Come see us! We do have seats available on a couple of planes if that interests you.

    05/31/2011
Bill Holekamp and his son, Mark, arrived in Bacoburito and had an excellent trip, with Mark catching a 10.5 and an 11.4 on big crank baits in 15 feet of water. Mike Knight fishing with his wife reported that by far, this was his best trip to Lake Baccarac, with exceptional numbers of six to nine lb. fish. Our new jet operator, Jet ICU, brought in the Lear Jet to Bacoburito. Call if you would like more information.

    05/24/2011 to 05/29/2011
fishing slowed somewhat for Steve Gilcrease and Paul Kenndy with the water falling but overall great numbers of fish from 3 to 6 pounds caught.

    05/23/2011
Greg Riggle's group departs reporting excellent numbers of bass over 9 pounds and stated that they could not have caught more or better fish....excellent!

    5/18/2011
Steve Rudy departing and reporting the best trip his has ever had with one day landing 5 over 10 pounds.

    05/16/2011
John Lard and Adam Bulleigh flying in to Bacubirito had a great trip with excellent numbers of bass up to 8 and 9 pounds with 2 fish over 10 caught.

    05/10/2011 to 05/15/2011
Fishing continues to be outstanding. Gil Wright and Mike Watson's group arriving in Mike Seikel's airplane, had a record-breaking trip. Gil Wright, at one point, caught 22 largemouth bass over seven lbs. in one hour, with fish up to 9.6 lbs. Gil commented that this was the best action he had ever seen on the lake. Mike Watson and his fishing partner caught 545 bass in their four days of fishing, with a 10.6 and a 10.5 being the two largest and 77 over 8 lbs. Nineteen of those fish were over 9 lbs. But what tells the story is that on Friday, May 12th, their 10 biggest fish weighed 96 lbs. Mike Seikel and his group caught fish up to 11 lbs. and reported by far the best fishing trip they have had to Baccarac or any other lake, for that matter.
